Journeys With Purpose Selected as Earthshot Prize Nominator

Hello JWP community,

I’m delighted to share some incredibly exciting news with you all. Journeys With Purpose has been selected as an official nominator for The Earthshot Prize. This marks a significant moment in our impact journey, and we are deeply honoured to be part of such a meaningful global initiative.

The Earthshot Prize, established by Prince William and The Royal Foundation in 2020, is one of the most prestigious environmental awards in the world. It’s often likened to a “Nobel Prize” for the planet, designed to identify, celebrate and scale transformative solutions to the biggest environmental challenges we face. The prize awards £1 million to five winners each year, across five categories: Protect and Restore Nature, Clean Our Air, Revive Our Oceans, Build a Waste-Free World and Fix Our Climate.

Nominators are carefully selected from across the globe and play a pivotal role in finding trailblazing projects that align with these ambitious goals. They are selected for their ability to identify the most impactful solutions to the five Earthshots across all countries and sectors, from grassroots and Indigenous communities to businesses and governments. As a nominator, Journeys With Purpose now has the unique opportunity to help elevate the very best projects and ideas that are contributing to a sustainable and thriving future for our planet.

At JWP, we have firsthand experience of the invaluable work of The Earthshot Prize-winning organisations through our partnership with Acción Andina (winner in 2023). Acción Andina is dedicated to the restoration of high-altitude Polylepis forests in the Andes, an ecosystem that is vital for the region’s climate resilience, water security, biodiversity and indigenous culture. In March 2024, Katya Payne, one of our Impact Travel Specialists, spent an inspiring few days in the Andes with Acción Andina to participate in the Queña Raymi community tree planting festival. You can read more about her experience here.

With Acción Andina, we’ve created a private travel itinerary that allows our guests to experience this incredible project firsthand. Our journey through the Andes not only immerses you in breathtaking landscapes and rich local culture, but also gives you the chance to actively participate in reforestation efforts that are making a tangible difference to the health of our planet.

Being part of The Earthshot Prize ecosystem feels like a perfect extension of our mission at Journeys With Purpose. It represents our commitment to continue seeking out, supporting and collaborating with innovative environmental projects across the globe. We are proud to be in a position where we can help amplify those voices and bring them to the world stage.

So, this is our invitation to you, the JWP Community. If you know of any standout projects deserving of global recognition through The Earthshot Prize, please get in touch. And if you’re seeking a travel experience that goes beyond exploration to make a positive environmental impact, we welcome you to join us in the Andes with Acción Andina and be a part of this extraordinary effort to heal our planet.

Thank you.

OUR FOCUS - THE IBERÁ NATIONAL PARK:

This extraordinary wetland, the largest in Argentina, is home to 30% of the biodiversity in the country including endangered species such as the pampas and marsh deer, the maned wolf and grassland birds like the strange-tailed tyrant.

In 2005, what was to become one of the largest rewilding programs in the Americas was started, with the goal of restoring keystone species that had been extirpated from Iberá through hunting and habitat loss and were extinct in the region, the Province or, in some cases, the country.

As the rewilding program developed, the cultural identity of Iberá began to recover alongside the ecosystems and natural processes, impacting a total population of 100,000 people who surround the park.

Today, Iberá stands as one of the world’s most successful ongoing conservation missions.
