Venture deep into the Congo Basin on one of our transformative Republic of Congo adventures, where dense rainforests shelter elusive species and ancient ecosystems thrive. Track western lowland gorillas with expert guides, support vital conservation science, and discover the profound connection between biodiversity and Indigenous knowledge.
The Republic of Congo boasts a breathtaking tapestry of landscapes ranging from dense rainforests to expansive savannahs, which are best experienced through immersive Congo adventures.
Home to the iconic Congo River, it holds the title of Africa’s second-largest country and shelters a remarkable array of wildlife, including endangered mountain gorillas in Virunga National Park, the eastern-lowland gorilla in Kahuzi Biega National Park, and the critically endangered northern-white rhino (of which less than 30 remain in the wild) in Garamba National Park.
Despite challenges, community-based conservation initiatives are gaining momentum, engaging local populations in sustainable practices and fostering coexistence with wildlife.
Discover the delicate balance of preserving natural wonders and uplifting communities in the company of award-winning community conservationists, Pole Pole Foundation.
As you embark on a Republic of Congo adventure, you’ll have the chance to encounter a variety of native species, plants and animals that are naturally found only in this region. These species are key to the health of the local ecosystem, supporting biodiversity and helping maintain nature’s balance.
Many of them face threats from habitat loss, climate change, and invasive species, making conservation efforts more important than ever. By learning about and appreciating these native species, you’re also helping to protect them for future generations.

This extraordinary wetland, the largest in Argentina, is home to 30% of the biodiversity in the country including endangered species such as the pampas and marsh deer, the maned wolf and grassland birds like the strange-tailed tyrant.
In 2005, what was to become one of the largest rewilding programs in the Americas was started, with the goal of restoring keystone species that had been extirpated from Iberá through hunting and habitat loss and were extinct in the region, the Province or, in some cases, the country.
As the rewilding program developed, the cultural identity of Iberá began to recover alongside the ecosystems and natural processes, impacting a total population of 100,000 people who surround the park.
Today, Iberá stands as one of the world’s most successful ongoing conservation missions.
