Madagascar
Adventures

Madagascar adventures transport you to an island like no other, where baobab-studded landscapes, lemur-filled forests, and coral-fringed coastlines create a haven of endemic biodiversity.

Journey through sacred ecosystems and remote communities, supporting conservation initiatives that safeguard this extraordinary natural and cultural heritage.

VISIT Madagascar

The fourth largest island on Earth, Madagascar is a global conservation priority as one of the most biodiverse places on our planet.

Boasting a remarkable array of unique flora and fauna, with 90% of its plant species only found in Madagascar and 110 species of lemur, of which 94% are threatened with extinction, the beauty of this rich island is juxtaposed with the extreme poverty and malnutrition driving the country’s deforestation and habitat loss.

Nearly half of its natural forest cover has been lost since the 1950s due to habitat degradation, slash and burn agriculture and fires. A journey to this rare and distinct landscape offers exploration of its diverse geographies, from lush rainforests to deserts and pristine beaches, alongside the opportunity to understand how grassroots solutions are working to both protect the unique biodiversity and promote local conservation cooperation and alternative forms of livelihood.

Where travel and conservation meet

As you travel through this unique landscape, you’ll have the chance to encounter a variety of native species, plants and animals that are naturally found only in this region. These species are key to the health of the local ecosystem, supporting biodiversity and helping maintain nature’s balance.

Many of them face threats from habitat loss, climate change, and invasive species, making conservation efforts more important than ever. By learning about and appreciating these native species, you’re also helping to protect them for future generations.

OUR FOCUS - THE IBERÁ NATIONAL PARK:

This extraordinary wetland, the largest in Argentina, is home to 30% of the biodiversity in the country including endangered species such as the pampas and marsh deer, the maned wolf and grassland birds like the strange-tailed tyrant.

In 2005, what was to become one of the largest rewilding programs in the Americas was started, with the goal of restoring keystone species that had been extirpated from Iberá through hunting and habitat loss and were extinct in the region, the Province or, in some cases, the country.

As the rewilding program developed, the cultural identity of Iberá began to recover alongside the ecosystems and natural processes, impacting a total population of 100,000 people who surround the park.

Today, Iberá stands as one of the world’s most successful ongoing conservation missions.
