Japan conjures images of big bustling metropolises, towering neon skyscrapers and labyrinthine alleys hiding culinary gems. But while Japan’s iconic cities capture the hearts and minds of most travellers (and for good reason) around 70% of the country’s land mass remains uninhabited.
The archipelago of Japan encompasses a diverse range of climates, from the subtropical southern islands to the icy north. With more than 90,000 species, a high proportion of which are endemic, its expansive wild landscapes are a haven for biodiversity. Journey off the beaten path to its lesser explored corners – from the epic wilderness of Hokkaido to the winding ancient pilgrimage trails of the Kii Peninsula and the mangrove forests of Okinawa, Japan provides endless opportunities for immersion in wild nature.
We do not currently run a hosted journey in Japan, however we encourage you to sign up for our newsletter to be the first to know when we do. We are always adding new hosted journeys to our roster.
Are you curious about our natural world? Bespoke journeys are entirely tailor-made to each guest, based on their interests, passions and practical travel plans. Speak to our specialist team to begin planning your private journey to Japan, and view the example lookbook below for inspiration.
Our Impact Pledge is our commitment to support the advancement of pioneering conservation projects through direct donations with every journey. In 2023, and our second calendar year, we raised and directed over $50,000 to grassroot conversation projects. We do this by created hosted and private conservation travel experiences in Japan and around the world.
This extraordinary wetland, the largest in Argentina, is home to 30% of the biodiversity in the country including endangered species such as the pampas and marsh deer, the maned wolf and grassland birds like the strange-tailed tyrant.
In 2005, what was to become one of the largest rewilding programs in the Americas was started, with the goal of restoring keystone species that had been extirpated from Iberá through hunting and habitat loss and were extinct in the region, the Province or, in some cases, the country.
As the rewilding program developed, the cultural identity of Iberá began to recover alongside the ecosystems and natural processes, impacting a total population of 100,000 people who surround the park.
Today, Iberá stands as one of the world’s most successful ongoing conservation missions.
