Redefining Legacy: Bhutan With Purpose

Punakha Valley | Bhutan

Bhutan, the world’s only carbon-negative nation, offers a rare glimpse into a society where progress is measured not by GDP, but by Gross National Happiness, a holistic framework rooted in well-being, environmental balance, and cultural preservation.

This journey is designed for rising leaders, purpose-driven families, and stewards of multi-generational legacy who seek to lead with clarity and intention. Set in the heart of the Himalayas, it invites deep exploration of values-driven leadership, systems thinking, and intergenerational impact.

Facilitated by the Center for Family Enterprise at the Stockholm School of Economics and hosted by Journeys With Purpose, you’ll gain privileged access to Bhutanese changemakers, sacred monasteries, and community-led models of stewardship. Through immersive cultural encounters, private spiritual moments, and guided reflection on legacy and purpose, this experience becomes more than a journey, it becomes a catalyst for regeneration, both personal and collective.

CONSERVATION IMPACT

Bhutan’s conservation model is globally unique – rooted in its constitutional mandate to protect nature and guided by the principle of Gross National Happiness.

On this journey, you’ll meet the guardians of that vision. At the Black-Necked Crane Centre, Dr. Kinley shares efforts to protect this endangered species and its fragile habitat. In Punakha Dzong, Dasho Tshering Dorji offers insights on the integration of environmental stewardship with governance and spiritual heritage.

You’ll take part in reforestation efforts with Green Bhutan, share a hillside lunch with Dasho Benji, Bhutan’s revered ‘Godfather of Conservation’, and gather around the table for a private dinner with the country’s top environmental leaders. This is an invitation to step into Bhutan’s living model of balance and to carry its lessons forward.

OUR FOCUS - THE IBERÁ NATIONAL PARK:

This extraordinary wetland, the largest in Argentina, is home to 30% of the biodiversity in the country including endangered species such as the pampas and marsh deer, the maned wolf and grassland birds like the strange-tailed tyrant.

In 2005, what was to become one of the largest rewilding programs in the Americas was started, with the goal of restoring keystone species that had been extirpated from Iberá through hunting and habitat loss and were extinct in the region, the Province or, in some cases, the country.

As the rewilding program developed, the cultural identity of Iberá began to recover alongside the ecosystems and natural processes, impacting a total population of 100,000 people who surround the park.

Today, Iberá stands as one of the world’s most successful ongoing conservation missions.
